Nie wiem dlaczego skaner nie działa. Wydaje się, że powinien. Zastanawiające jest to, że masz sterowniki w wersjach nowszych niż dostępne na stronie producenta.
Może spróbuj wszystko odinstalować i zainstalować jeszcze raz...
Mam to samo z Brother DCP-375CW. Drukarka działa, skaner już nie. Wszystko podłączone jest przez router. W Ubuntu 15.10 i wcześniejszych wersjach systemu nie było żadnych problemów. Dla testów ściągnąłem program vuescan i ten niema problemu z wykryciem skanera.
