Rozdzielczośc a monitor

Wiem że temat był już wielokrotnie poruszany ale nie znalazłem odpowiedzi a mianowicie:
zainstalowałem sobie Ubuntu 10.10 (mój pierwszy Linux) zamiast Windowsa i po zainstalowaniu sterowników graficznych nVidia przez ten manager sterowników max rozdzielczość monitora to 640x480
nie da sie ustawic większej. Gdzieś znalazłem żeby edytować plik xorg.config ale on u mnie jest tylko do odczytu i nie da sie nic zrobic. Moja karta graficzna to gf fx5200. Po odinstalowaniu sterowników wszystko wraca do normy. Prosze o pomoc bo coś mi sie wydaje ze ten linux to narazie bedzie mój jedyny system a na tym standardowym sterowniku "troche zamula"

plik xorg.config musisz edytować jak root. Czyli wywołaj edycje tego pliku z konsoli, poprzedzając polecenie słowem "sudo"

widzę, musisz poczytać podstawowe podstawy podstaw, bo wszystkiego nie da się wytłumaczyć, a raczej Twój poziom wiedzy jest bardzo znikomy
PS.
Podpowiem: hasło się wpisuje, ale nie wyświetla na ekranie - to dodatkowe zabezpieczenia linuxa.

na gf5200 wszystko śmiga aż miło wiem z doswiadczenia:)
najpierw wejdź do menu system->administracja->sterowniki i zainstaluj ten z numerkiem 173.
z terminala odpal
restart kompa i wszystko powinno działać:)
jeśli xconfig nie wygeneruje dobrze dodanych modułów to wklej tego i powinno chodzić

dobra dzięki za pomoc musiałem podmienić plik xorg na ten dodany przez B.A.D. (oczywiście z jego pomocą ) za co jestem mu wdzięczny!
