Niska rozdzielczość ekranu

Witam!

Najwyższa dostępna rozdzielczość ekranu to 800x600. System rozpoznał kartę graficzną jako Matrox MGA G400/G450. Monitor to: GoldStar Studioworks 78i
Próbowałam zabiegów proponowanych w poście z czerwca: [HowTo] Instalacja i konfiguracja Matrox G550/G450/G400 Dual Head w Ubuntu 9.04 i innych,
ale nie pomogło, tzn. przy instalacji sterownika z projects. tuxx pojawia się komunikat:

"Can't find the X Server version you are currently running (1.6.4) in
this installer database, sofor your convenience, I'll try to install
the latest available version (7.1.0) onto your system.
If you think this is alright, simply hit <return> here, if you don't....

Potem pytanie czy chcę instalować X server driver...

installed X driver is the same as the installer version, not
installing driver file.
installed X HALdriver is the same as the installer version, not
installing HAL driver file.I "

Będę wdzięczna za podpowiedź o co chodzi... x.org zmieniałam już wg kilku porad...
I nadal rozdzielczość tylko 800x600....

Trochę Cię zmartwię, mnie na to pomogła zmiana dystrybucji Linuxa. Zmień kartę albo dystrybucję na inną.
