Dell Inspiron 1764 - ubuntu nie wykrywa mi touchpada (chyba)

Witam, mam laptopa jak w tytule. Jestem kompletnym nowicjuszem jeśli chodzi o linuxa w ogóle. Zainstalowałem sobie ubuntu 11.10. Mam wrażenie, że touchpad w moim linuxie albo nie jest wykrywany, albo jest traktowany jak zwykła myszka. Co przez to rozumiem? Gdy próbowałem zainstalować synaptiks - wyskoczył mi komunikat, że nie wykryto właśnie touchpada, ale sam jako taki działa. Można jeździć palcem, kursor się przesuwa, przyciski też działają.

Szukałem też jakichś opcji do poustawiania tego jak touchpad ma działać, ale z tego co zdąrzyłem przeczytać - jakiekolwiek opcje konfigurowania zostały bardzo dobrze ukryte. Ale w narzędziach systemowych "mysz i panel dotykowy" są ustawienia od myszy, ale nie ma od panelu dotykowego.

W ogólności chciałbym prosić o jakąś poradę, bo mój kolega, który potrafił sam sobie postawić linuxa arch - wykoleił się na tym. A zależy mi na tym sterowniku, bo podczas pisania na klawiaturze jest w ogólności wnerwiające, jak co chwile mi gdzieś przeskakuje kursor i zaczynam pisać gdzie indziej (w przypadku przypadkowego pukania w touchpad).

Jeśli coś napisałem nie tu gdzie trzeba lub nie tak jak trzeba, to przepraszam, ale jestem początkujący również na tym forum.

Posiadam Dell Vostro 3550 i u mnie występuje ten sam problem. Próbowałem kompilować nowszy kernel (3.2), instalowałem różne środowiska graficzne (Unity, Gnome Shell, KDE), nic nie pomogło. To prawdopodobnie błąd sterownika.
Może w kernelu 3.3 naprawią ten problem.
