Niebiańska Nimfa na Dellu Vostro 3550

Witam,
zamierzam w najbliższym czasie zakupić Vostro 3550. Będę na nim pracował na Ubuntu 11.04 (x64) oraz win7 (x64). Żeby uniknąć rozczarowania próbuję doszukać się jak wygląda sprawa kompatybilności z Ubuntu na tym lapku. Niestety nie wygląda to za kolorowo.

To info dotyczy wersji 10.10. O 11.04 nic nie ma.

i found solution. dell vostro 3550 not support ubuntu 11.04 USB installation. If any one want to install Ubuntu 11.04 please use ubuntu live CD That work well and install without any error.

I called Dell support who, after 20 minutes of billed communication, answered me that "Live CD were not supported on the 3550", something that was NOT told in the product description - otherwise I would not ahev bought it : a machine on which you cannot install Linux is only half a machine nowadays.

Third edit : Looks like it is possible to boot a live CD if you replace "AHCI" with "IDE" in the BIOS SATA mode. However, this does not seem to be of much help, because in such a cas the hard disk does not seem to be accessible. Still investigating, 28 June 2011.

I have installed 10.04 after deleting the preinstalled 9.10 on dell vostro. only had to tweak the bios setting for HDD mode from IDE to SATA.

Z Wubi też jest zagadka:

I was thinking Natty and Wubi were having a spat. I couldn't get Ubuntu 11.04 running on a Dell Vostro 3550 using Wubi. After using it under VmWare for a while, I tried Wubi again and it worked. Things went very well for a week or so, and then one fine boot it blew chunks, just as it had done before. I could find no help online for the problem, but I did discover several postings that mentioned some kind of deep incompatibility between Ubuntu 11.04 and the Dell Vostro 3550, despite the fact some other Vostro models actually ship with Ubuntu pre-installed. So, the problem isn't an issue with Wubi after all, but an issue with this particular laptop model.

Mam nadzieję, że długość postu Was nie zniechęci i znajdzie się ktoś, kto jest w stanie mi pomóc. Na pewno nie kupię laptopa, w którym loterią będzie czy Ubuntu się odpali czy nie. Jest w sieci jeszcze kilka topiców, w których ludzie pytają np. o jakieś stery, więc wnioskuję że udało im się zainstalować ten system. Ale analogicznie są i posty, że instalacja się nie powiodła.

Jest i wiele innych problemów, szczególnie z grafiką hybrydową pod linuxem. Zresztą pod Windowsem również, Dell pracuje nad działającym systemem zarządzania dwoma kartami graficznymi. Czyli właściwie mnóstwo problemów. A innych kandydatów brak... Dodam jeszcze, że jestem początkującym w świecie Ubuntu.

Dell to firma, która najbliżej współpracuje z Canonical w celu poprawnego uruchamiania Ubuntu na ich komputerach. Szczerze wątpię, aby występowały jakieś problemy nie do rozwiązania. To pewnie zależy od konkretnej konfiguracji, ale w większości przypadków użytkownicy zgłaszają, że da się uruchomić i zainstalować Ubuntu 11.04 na tym laptopie.

Tutaj znajdziesz zmodyfikowane przez Della obrazy ISO z Ubuntu: http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/ (one nie koniecznie są dla wspomnianego przez Ciebie laptopa, ale gdyby "zwykłe Ubuntu" miało problemy, to mają szansę pomóc).

Gwarancji pewnie nikt Ci nie da, ale ja byłbym dobrej myśli.

Moim zdaniem największym problemem może być tutaj grafika. Można kupić takiego Della tylko z integrą i to bym Ci polecał. Jeżeli weźmiesz hybrydę to się mocno sparzysz.
