instalacja sterowników graficznej Chrome9 VIA896

Chcę zainstalować sterowniki do karty graficznej na laptopie california acces pod ubuntu 7.10 ze strony http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... bCatID=189 jakiś czas temu pojawiły się tam binaria do tej karty
(troche dziwne bo mają date grudzien 2007 a tego roku latem jeszcze ich nie było ale mniejsza o to)
po za brakiem trybu 3D był jeszcze jeden problem kiedy chciałem przejść z Xów na konsolę ctrl+alt+F1 tryb graficzny zdychał i ekran robił się czarny i nie było konsoli ani możliwości powrotu do Xów bardzo się rozradowałęm ze VIA zabrała się do roboty kiedyś nawet podpisałem w internecie jakąś petycje do VIA zeby zabrała się za linuxa ...

odpaliłem instalator zainstalowałem, a po restarcie zamiast okna logowania pojawił mi sie ekran w jaśniejące stopniowo czarno białe psaki nie mam pojęcią co robić moze trzeba poprawić coś w tym xorg.conf który ustswił instalator ?

na razie przywróciłem xorg.conf z przed instalacji sterowników

ps. dodam jeszcze że pożądaną rozdzielczością na monitorze jest 1280x800
